The students marching beside him disappeared as a pell-mell crowd of students tried to get closer to the star who kept his head down and fidgeted with his glasses, his lips, his moustache, with a shy puzzled smile on his face. I feel nervous at moments like these, said the actor blushing, and the noisy students became more frenzied screaming his name to draw attention, and catcalls. The bouncers guarding him got involved and Akhil was escorted to the stage as students tried to touch him, click his photograph, while the more ambitious ones tried to snag selfies.
Away from the adulating crowd, he stepped on the stage and said: I congratulate Ridha who inspired me to come here. I now realise how we take those people around us for granted who make life easier for us. Now, I asked myself, Did I say good morning to my driver today? No I didnt. After I get inside the car I will wish him. It would have been stupid for me not to have come here.
Ridha Fatima, a differently-abled student of the college took the initiative of cleaning the toilets, inspiring other students in the process. And thats how the students and administration decided to have a Swachh Bharat campaign for their college.
After Akhil stepped down the stage there was almost a stampede. Girls ran to click pictures and shake hands with him. They pushed one another for a glimpse of him. Girls rushed to the spot where he was sitting and a circle of admin staff had to stop them. Even while he was whisked away in a car, the girls cheered and some even did a mad dance for having got a picture with him.
